Central Avenue is the primary connection between the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and the I-80 and I-580 freeways. Four closely spaced signalized intersections along Central Avenue are being modified to improve traffic flows through the area. CME assisted with the first of two projects with installed multiple electronic variable message signs, redirecting I-80 westbound on-ramp traffic during weekend peak periods to I-580. This project won the 2019 Partnered Project of the Year Award from IPI.
CME led the way in making this the first project CCTA bid electronically and opened live on the Authority’s YouTube Page. In addition, staff assisted with efforts to use one of the paperless construction management software programs eliminating paper documentation for the project. CME’s contributions in amending contracts and drafting funding resolutions were key to the successful partnership between the Authority and the City of Richmond that resulted in the repaving of the badly deteriorated Central Avenue, an important collector road for the City. In the absence of a solid graphics team, CME led the way in designing mailers/ flyers which helped communicate critical operations to the public. CME also provided oversight of the Authority’s construction management firm and is currently leading the closeout process.
